“I am proud to say we made a very smart decision in 2013 to select Pioneer Place Memory Haven as a home for my stepfather when I moved him from Ellensburg, WA to the Tacoma area. Pioneer provided a safe and caring environment to Kurt for over four years until his passing in September, 2017. Kurt’s family will always be thankful to the entire Pioneer staff for the continuous love, patience and concern shown to him.
The staff often heard Kurt say he wanted to “go home to Ellensburg” but after caring discussions he became satisfied that Pioneer was, in fact, his home and he soon forgot about leaving. Many thanks to all at Pioneer for the sense of humor that was always present in these conversations as Kurt had a “funny bone” which even improved as the months passed at Pioneer.
Family support by the Pioneer Staff was outstanding. Communications between the family and the facility were superb and all concerns were acted upon. I was always kept very well informed at to Kurt’s condition and problem areas by periodic meetings with the staff. Excellent training was also conducted for family members each month on the many facets of memory care, dementia and caregiving techniques.
The Pioneer Place Memory Haven “family” deserves so much credit and thanks for the professionalism and dignity shown to all residents and to family members. We’re so glad they were there!”
